The mission and goals of the St. George Catholic School Library are in accordance with the standards and guidelines set forth in Standards and Guidelines For Library Media Programs In Louisiana Schools. The Library is committed to enriching and supporting the educational objectives of the school curriculum.This goal is accomplished by selecting, organizing, providing and maintaining materials that serve the informational needs of its students and teachers and represent the school’s Catholic Christian philosophy and values.
Schedule
DK – 5th grade students receive weekly instruction of information science skills.
Students in 6th through 8th grade are on a flexible library schedule.They use the library independently or when scheduled by a teacher or librarian.
The library is open every morning from 8:00 to 8:25 A.M. for student work.During this time many students exchange books, take AR tests or work on projects. They may also come through out the school day with their teacher’s permission.
Library Policies and Procedures
Students may check out books for one week and may renew books for an additional two weeks. Reference materials may not be charged out, but can be used while working in the library.
There are no fines for overdue books, but fines will be incurred if materials are damaged or lost (cost to replace item).
Titles may be “Reserved” for students by the Librarian
Library computers may be used to access OPAC, research the Internet, take AR tests, or type a paper. To use the computer in any other capacity requires permission from the librarian.
Students may download files to a disk or e-mail their research to their home address. If they choose to print information or papers for an assignment, the cost is ten cents a page for black and white documents and twenty-five cents a page for color documents.
