Summer Reading

2019 Summer Reading Program

Once again, St. George will require students to participate in summer reading.  The benefits of reading during the summer months are plentiful, but most importantly it helps students to foster a love of reading and advances literacy and academic performance at the beginning of the school year.

Summer is the perfect time for students to catch up on a little reading and even get a step ahead in Accelerated Reader for the first 9 weeks.  Below, please find a list of books with a corresponding grade level.  Students are asked to read the book assigned for the grade level they will be entering in 2019.  Upon returning to school, students must be prepared to participate in graded activities that pertain to their grade level's summer reading book.  Additionally, students will be encouraged and allowed to take the AR test on the book if they haven't already done so.

We thank you for supporting our summer reading program.

Sincerely,

Jack Nelson
Principal

Incoming Kindergarten and 1st Grade Students

Students entering Kindergarten should read or be read ten or more books. Print the chart found here, list the book title and color the books as books are read and discussed at home.  On the first day of school, students should turn in, to their teacher, a picture illustrating one of the books they have read or been read and the completed log sheet.

Incoming first graders should read or be read 5 books of their choice.  Students will choose one of the 5 books to complete the book report provided here to be turned in on the first day of school.  Students should list the names of the 4 other books read on the back of the book report.
